Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is one of the most widely used therapies for trauma and focuses on identifying and changing harmful thought patterns that affect emotions and behaviors.
How It Helps: CBT helps survivors challenge negative beliefs, such as self-blame or feelings of helplessness, and replace them with healthier, more constructive thoughts. Specific forms, such as Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), are tailored for trauma survivors, including children.
Benefits: Effective for managing PTSD, anxiety, and depression. It provides clear tools and strategies for coping with intrusive thoughts or overwhelming emotions.
Considerations: May feel overly structured or focused on cognitive processes, leaving emotional or somatic aspects of trauma unaddressed.
